چکیده

Urbanization influences the food availability and quality for birds in many ways. Although a great amount of is provided incidentally or intentionally urban areas, quantity insect-based can be reduced cities. We studied role one artificial source, insects smashed on front panels cars, Finland, more specifically city Rovaniemi, by conducting questionnaire research, searching data from databases performing field study. Our results indicated that total seven bird species have been detected using cars Finland. However, this behavior not yet common since about 60% responders to stated currently either rare very rare. Most observations identified House Sparrows, followed White Wagtail Eurasian Jackdaw. Only few Tree Sparrow, Hooded Crow, Great Tit Magpie. The phenomenon was distributed quite widely across except case Jackdaws, which were restricted only southern part country. first observation made Sparrow 1971, (1975), Crow (1997), Jackdaw (2006), (2011), Magpie (2019) (2022). source are mainly sedentary exploiters, such as corvids sparrows, previously reported several different types innovative behaviors. conducted parking sites hypermarkets, no residential areas. foraging during end phase breeding season, partly supporting extra need high-quality nestlings fledglings. indicate widespread among species.

P5.13 Detection of Birds and Insects Using Polarimetric Radar Observation

It has been known that polarimetric radar can discriminate biological and meteorological scatterers. Furthermore, Zrnic and Ryzhkov (1998) have shown that the polarimetric properties of small Rayleigh scatterers like insects and large non-Rayleigh scatterers like birds are significantly different. Vaughn (1985) has stated that prolate spherical water drops are a better model of birds and insect...

Reducing the maladaptive attractiveness of solar panels to polarotactic insects.

Human-made objects (e.g., buildings with glass surfaces) can reflect horizontally polarized light so strongly that they appear to aquatic insects to be bodies of water. Insects that lay eggs in water are especially attracted to such structures because these insects use horizontal polarization of light off bodies of water to find egg-laying sites. Thus, these sources of polarized light can becom...
